Suited to each other?

The core question for you as an applicant and for Witten/Herdecke University is whether we suit each other. Our selection procedures focus not on an applicant's school grades but on character, job experience and personal interests. The decision for a specific degree programme at a specific university is not easy and should be well considered - just like any decision on long-term relationships.

Come and see for yourself!

Our homepage, our social media activities, flyers and brochures, our presence at educational fairs, Open Days, and individually organized Taster Days offer ample opportunity to get a personal impression and learn more about us. Having first convinced yourself, you will then have to convince us that you will be an asset to UW/H. There are no pat solutions for guaranteed admission. What we recommend is: be spontaneous, be authentic!

Character is what counts!

Your written application documents should illustrate who and what you are. Why do you want to study in Witten? Why do you think we suit each other? If your application has piqued our curiosity, the next step will be an invitation for personal interviews with teams of UW/H faculty, students and alumni, representatives of the business community and/or media. No standardized tests or assessment procedures; we prefer to focus on you: personality, entrepreneurial or social commitment, academic potential, individual interests and talents.

There is no list of criteria to be met, nor do we have a fixed intake per semester. Evaluation of candidates is as individual as the candidates themselves. The system has proved to be very satisfactory.

Invitation to study

If upon conclusion of these interviews we believe that we are right for each other, we invite you to study at our faculty and university (general studies in humanities and arts are an obligatory part of all degree programmes). The decision to accept a candidate is discretionary, based on a majority vote of interviewers, and not without an element of subjectivity. The high degree of satisfaction among UW/H students and a negligible number of dropouts demonstrate that in general we are not far off the mark.
