Business Economics (B.A.)
Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics
The Bachelor programme generally covers six semesters. In the first half of the programme there are introductory seminars on business economics and general management. Students also acquire basic knowledge in mathematics, law, accounting, languages and logics. In the following semesters they are free to attend advanced seminars from all these areas.
Students determine their individual focus themselves and choose from a wide range of seminars, including business-related disciplines, general studies in humanities and arts, or law.
The Mentor Company concept – experience theory in practice
Practical experience gained in the context of a mentor company may be recognized as proof of academic achievements after reflection in specific seminars. The mentor company concept offers students the opportunity to experience the value of theory in practice and integrate the experience into their theoretical background.
Students are free to initiate and implement projects – e.g. self-organized congresses, conference studies or other projects. They may apply to the economics department to have such activities recognized as part of academic achievements. The programme concludes with a Bachelor thesis on a subject of a student’s own choice.
No studies without fundamental studies
Throughout the programme, one day per week is scheduled for work in a mentor company. A second day per week is free from subject-related studies and intended for general studies in arts and humanities, or for foreign languages.
International orientation
UWH students are not obliged to spend a study period abroad, but the university and economics department strongly recommend and support such periods. Students are free to plan and organize an exchange period independently and even without the university’s supporting services – another valuable experience! Students may sit 50 % (maximum) of all examinations at foreign universities. The idea is to encourage international orientation and independence.
