Living in Witten

Witten and the Ruhr area

Not only the university, the city of Witten itself provides an ideal background for your studies: not too large (population: approx. 100.000), affordable prices, excellent connections to the entire Ruhr district, and amidst beautiful scenery. This green city in the Ruhr district is not far away from the Sauerland. The valley of the Ruhr river with Lake Kemnade and the forests of the Ardey mountains contribute to the attractive city image.

Good public transport system

It is only 15 minutes to Bochum or Dortmund by public transport, 45 to Düsseldorf, and only one hour to Cologne. Even Berlin or Hamburg are less than four hours away.

Relaxing in Witten and the region

A lively cultural scene has developed around the university. Students manage several culture clubs and organize concerts and parties on a regular basis. The Ruhr district is famous for innumerable cultural events and also for attractive out-door activities and all kinds of sports.

Witten/Herdecke University offers a wide range of sports, partly organized in cooperation with Ruhr Universität Bochum.
