Private or statutory health insurance?
In Germany you have the choice between private and statutory health insurance funds.
Basically, up to the age of 30 (or your 14th subject-related semester) you must have statutory health insurance. Most students enjoy reduced rates for students offered by statutory health insurance funds. The current monthly student rate with a statutory health fund is approx. 70 Euro.
Interested in a statutory health insurance policy for your study period in Germany? Please contact the International Office.
Private health insurance is accepted in exceptional cases only. Before you change over from a statutory health insurance fund, please note that this step requires exemption from statutory health insurance. This exemption is valid for the entire duration of your studies, so that a return to statutory insurance will not be possible for this period.
