Direct application
Individual direct application at any university worldwide
Basically, there is the option to apply for a study period abroad at a university of your choice in a country of your choice as a so-called free mover; this means, your studies there will not be covered by an official partnership agreement. In this case, general conditions and requirements for any ‚normal’ student regarding application and admission procedures, tuition fees and guidance will apply to you. You will not enjoy the benefits of a cooperation agreement, like exemption from tuition fees, accommodation or free language courses, but you have the freedom of choice.
Planning and preparation are essential for successful studies abroad.
IMPORTANT:
Start preparations about eighteen months prior to your planned departure, since application deadlines for programmes may end one year prior to studies abroad.

Individual applications at a foreign university without exchange programme require intensive planning. You should inquire well in advance about:
- Admission requirements
- Tuition fees
- Application dates & deadlines
- Application documents
- Accommodation
- Entry and residence formalities
Remember that in case of individual applications you will have to pay tuition fees in addition to cost of living and all other costs. Find out about possible scholarships and grants well in advance.
Many institutions giving grants offer financial support only for direct applications with a foreign university. One problem for applicants: the host university often requires proof of a financial plan (a scholarship in most cases) prior to accepting an applicant – and the grant-giving institution requires proof of an accepted application prior to accepting an application for a scholarship.
We suggest:
Submit your applications for a place and for a scholarship at the same time.
