Health insurance
In many countries, health insurance is obligatory for students. Please consult your host university and your health insurer in Germany for all details.
EU countries
In most EU countries, insurance cover by a German statutory health insurer or recognized private health insurer is sufficient. As a rule this insurer assumes treatment costs in EU countries. Nevertheless, ask your health insurer about treatment costs in another country. If your health insurer has not introduced the European health insurance card, please apply for the insurance form E 111 prior to departure.
Non-EU countries
The DAAD provides insurance for lecturers, students, trainees and other individuals supported or subsidized by the DAAD or by other so-called friendly organizations (combined health, accident and third-party insurance).
