Marriage market at Witten/Herdecke University: hot flirt or life-long bond

Companies meet prospective employees or interns in an exclusive setting / next marriage market on November 19 and 20, 2012.

The "marriage market" at Witten/Herdecke University has a long tradition. Business representatives meet UW/H economics students on two evenings in a private and pleasant atmosphere. Last week 60 students met managers from 21 companies such as Vorwerk, Lidl, Obi, Bertelsmann, Bleistahl and Inverto. One of two evenings is scheduled for regional and supraregional family businesses who find a competent partner in the Witten Institute for Family Business (WIFU) (www.uni-wh.de/wifu). Business representatives have three minutes each to outline their firm or project for which they want to recruit a student, followed by personal interviews with candidates. The next marriage market at UW/H will be on November 12 and 20, 2012. Interested companies from all over Germany are welcome.

Ms. Heßhaus from Franz Haniels & Cie. GmbH: "Unlike other job fairs, here at UW/H we have the time to get a personal impression of individual students and their interests and competences. This is why we are regular visitors, and we enjoy the event." The marriage market at Witten/Herdecke University has always been special. According to Manuel Dolderer (Ernst Klett AG), personal talks about specific projects and plans ensure that the right partners match up. No anonymous decisions; managers have the opportunity to interview candidates directly; a booklet with candidates' detailed CVs facilitates selection. It is up to the parties involved to decide whether the cooperation ends with the project or leads to an employment of the student after graduation.

Student Marc André Scheffler welcomes the format as an opportunity to discuss details of an internship and potential involvement in advance: "The projects we are offered here are more of a challenge compared to the standard type of internship."
