Deutschlandstipendium - scholarship information for applicants

1. General information:

Starting with the summer semester, UW/H invites applications for seven "Deutschlandstipendium" scholarships.

The scholarship amounts to 300 € per month. Grants up to this sum are generally excluded from social security payments. Pertinent housing benefit regulations (§14 Wohngeldgesetz, §21 Wohnraumförderungsgesetz) remain unaffected. 

The scholarship is paid during a recipient's studies at UW/H. Payments continue during lecture free periods and also during a subject-related study period abroad.

Maximum duration is currently one semester; starting with the winter term, scholarships will be awarded for two semesters. After termination of a scholarship, recipients must submit proof of credits acquired/performance (see below, obligation to cooperate) if they want to apply for an extension. Submission of such proof is considered as application for extension unless stated otherwise.

Everybody who meets higher education admission requirements and is starting studies at UW/H or is already enrolled there may apply.

Not entitled to this scholarship are recipients of grants for highly gifted students (DAAD, Stiftung Begabtenförderung berufliche Bildung, or other German or foreign donor organizations). This rule does not apply if the sum of such funding does not exceed a monthly average of Euro 30.- per sponsored semester. If in doubt, see the Deutschlandstipendium website below for details.

3. Selection criteria

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of talent and performance. Apart from documented above-average academic performance and personal development, possible criteria are community engagement, the willingness to assume responsibility, and personal circumstances related to an applicant's social background. Please submit proof of such performance together with your application and describe how you meet the selection criteria.

5. Selection procedure

After the deadline we shall check whether applications are complete and meet formal requirements. Applicants may be asked to hand in missing documentation. Applications will then be submitted to the selection committee for decision. Applicants will receive information on approval or rejection within approx. four weeks after the deadline.

6. Obligation to cooperate

UW/H will check at least once per year whether a scholarship recipient's talents and performance justify continued payment of funds. During the funding period, recipients are obliged to present proof of performance/suitability as specified by UW/H. They receive additional pertinent information upon notice of approval.
