Symposium for Applied Cultural Reflexion
A group of UW/H students and teachers attach great importance to improved networking among the rapidly expanding number of programs in philosophy and cultural studies, and foster contact with other universities offering similar programs. This is the background of an annual symposium at our university as a forum for information and exchange.
A one-day event on May 13, 2006 was the beginning. The symposium for applied cultural reflexion is a platform for reflexion on cultural manifestations in university contexts and working environments. Theoretically explored topics are analyzed as to practical relevance and potential for further development, and vice versa: questions emerging from practice are explored in academic discourse.
The main purpose of the symposium is debate, with constructive mutual reflexion of theory and practice. In the first year the focus was on educational concepts for master programs in cultural management, cultural sciences, intercultural communication, Kulturkritik, etc. Profiles of various programs were compared and examined as to background and objectives, differences and common features. The event is open to representatives of invited departments, researchers and practitioners in the field (e.g. artistic directors or curators), but also to interested students (master students and applicants for master programs) from all over Germany to whom the invited departments may present their programs.
