Quo vadis Corporate Digital Responsibility? – RMI Online Research Seminar

Hannah Trittin-Ulbrich from Leuphana University Lüneburg reports on her current research on Corporate Digital Responsibility and what it means to conduct responsible business in the digital age.

Extant management and organization research often hails the transformation of business operations through digital technologies, emphasising its commercial and economic potential. Simultaneously, digitalization can also be a threat to individual rights of users, employees and citizens alike. It creates new ethical challenges and dilemmas as human behavior can increasingly be predicted, controlled, and modified. However, there is a general lack of insight into the practical experiences of corporations with ethics-related concerns in the process of digitalization. In this guest lecture, Hannah Trittin-Ulbrich will present empirical findings of her ongoing research on „Corporate Digital Responsibility“ and how corporations attempt to live up to the expectations of responsible business practice in the digital age.

Hannah Trittin-Ulbrich is an Assistant Professor for Business Administration, particularly Business Ethics, at Leuphana University Lüneburg, Germany. Her research interests include Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), CSR communication and responsible business practices in the digital age (also known as Corporate Digital Responsibility). Hannah’s research is published in internationally renowned journals like ‘Journal of Business Ethics’, ‘Journal of Management Inquiry’ or ‘Organization’. She is currently co-editor for multiple special issues on CSR-related topics in several leading journals, including ‘Business and Society’, and serves as social media editor for the Journal of Business Ethics. From October 2021 onwards, she will also lead the further education certificate „Digitale Ethik“ at Leuphana University Lüneburg.

RMI Research Seminars provide a forum for discussing latest findings in research areas matching or complementing those of the Reinhard Mohn Institute of Management at Witten/Herdecke University. Speakers are usually international, early-career and/or interdisciplinary-minded researchers. Due to the corona pandemic, the seminars are currently held online via Zoom.

This seminar completes the RMI Online Research Seminar Series of Summer Semester 2021. Earlier sessions have been scheduled for 20 May 2021, Ass.Prof. Eugenia Rosca (Tilburg University) on "Supply Chain Sustainability" and 17 June 2021, Prof. Anne Gausdal (Kristiania University) on “Managing Networks”.
