After completing my studies of music and working as a professional musician, I have changed my career path and now work in the management of an insurance company in my second career. If the General Management Master had already existed in Witten back then, it would have been the programme of my choice.

Students at Witten/Herdecke University organize their financial contributions to the tuition fees themselves. In 1995 students designed the Income Share Agreement (ISA) and set up the StudierendenGesellschaft (SG) in order to enable students to study regardless of their financial background.

WHY DO I HAVE TO MAKE FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS?

Witten/Herdecke University’s three core values are freedom, truth and responsibility. The Faculty implements these core values by offering students outstanding scientific education, the focus of which is on imparting academic knowledge and helping students develop a sense of judgement and responsibility. HOW DOES THE REVERSE GENERATIONAL CONTRACT WORK?

In 1995 students designed the Reverse Generational Contract in order to enable students to study regardless of their financial background. To date, they design the contract independently within in the StudierendenGesellschaft (SG) which, together with UW/H, guarantees that personality and talent are the decisive factors for access to higher education – not the financial background.

You do not have to pay any contributions during your studies. Not until you earn money you will have to contribute, depending on the level of your income (6 %) and over a fixed period of time (10 years).

    •    Those who earn little repay little; those who earn much repay more.
    •    Lower limit: If you earn less than 21,000 EUR of decisive income per annum, you will be exempt from repayment in the respective year.
    •    Upper limit: A defined upper limit caps the repayment.

DOES STUDYING IN WITTEN DEPEND ON A GOOD FINANCIAL BACKGROUND?

Studying at a private university is not a question of money at Witten/Herdecke University. Due to the Reverse Generational Contract everyone may start their studies at UW/H, independent of their financial background.

No restrictions to admissions (e.g., numerus clausus) apply. Places to study are allocated after successful online application and subsequent personal admission procedures.

WHO DECIDES WHETHER I WILL BE INVITED TO STUDY AT UW/H?

After a pre-selection based on your written documents admission procedures will take place. We will devote a lot of time to getting to know each other: A faculty professor chairs the admission committee, which also includes research assistants, alumni and experts from cooperating enterprises.
