    Department of Management and Entrepreneurship

In teaching and research, the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship (MUT) pursues the goal of understanding, explaining and helping to shape decision-making, start-up and change processes in business. In doing so, the focus is on people: we adopt a behavioral science perspective on people, groups and organizations. We prepare our students to take on leadership responsibility in their own or existing companies and give them the skills to shape our society in a sustainable way.

In addition to the classic advantages of a renowned university, such as proven research projects, far-reaching networks and a high level of interdisciplinarity, our students benefit from individualized communication in teaching and study programs that are not only career-qualifying but also personality-building.

The department's research is about better understanding start-up and change processes of organizations, especially family businesses, from multiple perspectives. We look at multiple levels - from complex economic systems to single individuals. We take a look at different theoretical perspectives - from institutions to behavioral sciences. And we look at different societal contexts, e.g. sustainability or digitalization.

The research foci are shaped by the profiles of the professorships, chairs and institutes. They can be divided into three areas:

    • Leadership and Responsibility
    • Innovation and Foundation
    • Organization and markets

The three institutes play a special role due to their focus. For example, they develop impulses for sustainable corporate management (RMI), make sustainability measurable (ZNU) or focus on family businesses and entrepreneurial families (WIFU).

Complex questions on interface topics or between disciplines shape practice and are thus the overarching focus of research. Companies and organizations are in a constant state of change, just like their environment. The examination of dynamics, change and transformation therefore connects many of the research perspectives of the department.
