KULTURZEIT - Samples from the field test: Harvest and results of the nutritional turnaround at the UW/H

How do we want to eat in the future - healthy, enjoyable and sustainable at the same time? This question is at the centre of the "Feldversuch" project, which is rethinking nutrition in a very practical way, right in the middle of everyday life at Witten/Herdecke University.
In this event, the project field test will present its results from cultivation planning, menu design and research to educational formats for healthy eating.
What has grown since the project started in April 2024?
The three major topics of health, nutrition and agriculture have often been researched and taught in a highly fragmented way. The connections between the environmental influences of the food system and the health effects on people and the planet have been well researched (EAT-Lancet Commission).
How can we put existing knowledge into practice and bring about real change at both an individual and institutional level?
In order to initially test this in a university context, the project is cooperating with the Entwicklungsgesellschaft für ganzheitliche Bildung e. V., which combines vegetable cultivation with nature conservation in the Pferdebachtal valley in Witten. The vegetables grown there end up fresh on the plates of the campus cafeteria, which is run by the Hochschulwerk Witten/Herdecke e. V.. On the other hand, the vegetables and the proximity to the educational field are used in seminars that encourage students to reflect, discuss and participate. Here, nutrition becomes a field of learning and research and real experiences that have an impact.
Sharing the harvest
The results of the field trial project are diverse: from cultivation planning in the field, menu design in the kitchen, research into the eating habits of patients, students and staff, to effective educational formats and ways to promote health through nutrition that are suitable for everyday use. The project team presents the key results in small bites.
Further developing a unique learning environment
The resulting connection between field, kitchen and seminar room creates a lively learning environment for planet-friendly nutrition - both in ecological and social terms. The potential of this unique learning environment can be utilised and further developed in a variety of ways. The plans for this and how other stakeholders can participate or utilise the learning environment will be presented at the end of the Kulturzeit.
The event is free of charge and open to everyone.
