Unique in Germany - the Bachelor of Choice programme at Witten/Herdecke University
With the Bachelor of Choice study model, students choose maximum freedom in their studies, individual specialisation options and important additional qualifications for career entry.

More flexibility and freedom of choice in your studies is hardly possible: from the winter semester 2023/2024, those who choose to study at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Society at Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) will benefit from a new flexible study model that is unique in Germany. With the Bachelor of Choice, students enrol on one of five degree programmes. They can choose between "Management", "Philosophy, Politics and Economics" and the three new degree programmes "Business, Politics and Law", "Global Sustainability: Climate, Justice, Transformation" and "Social Data Science". The highlight: only after a joint orientation year, in which all freshers are taught the same relevant basics and given interdisciplinary insights into the Faculty's subject areas, do students make a final decision on one of the five Bachelor's degree programmes according to their individual preferences. They can either stay enrolled in their subject or switch to their final choice of degree programme without wasting credit points or time.
Start studying without any obligations
"Many new degree programmes are currently being created that are becoming increasingly specialised in terms of content and methodology," says Prof. Dr Dirk Sauerland, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Society. "For us, this includes the Bachelor's degree programme Global Sustainability: Climate, Justice, Transformation, which deals with the climate crisis and the associated social upheavals. It's not easy to decide which subject is right for you. We want to give students the opportunity to get to know our university and the innovative range of courses on offer and to switch flexibly if their interests change."
Numerous additional qualifications
It is not only in the individual degree programmes that students become experts in their subject. Numerous so-called nano-degrees are also part of the model: students can voluntarily acquire additional qualifications that prepare them even better for their future appointments - for example, sustainability management or coaching. In addition, Witten/Herdecke University's interdisciplinary Studium fundamentale programme offers more than 100 courses from various fields that go beyond specialist studies and aim to teach students new and transformative skills. For example, they offer them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with artistic or philosophical approaches.
