International PPE Conference 2020

For the 5th year in a row, UW/H BA and MA students are organising the international PPE Conference. The 2020 conference was moved to 4th - 6th September 2020 due to Corona and is now going to be entirely digital. Students, young scholars and anyone who is interested in the topic, can still register!

Do you think the PPE Conference is only interesting for PPE students or students from related study fields? This is reasonable to assume, but it is surely not the case. The participation as well as the organisation of the conference is open to anyone who is interested in topics related to society, critical thinking, politics or world affairs. The conference has steadily grown over the past years and students from various study programmes have been involved so far.

How did it all start?

The idea to organise an interdisciplinary and interactive event, which is fully organised by a group of students who like to tackle current issues, discuss and bring like-minded people together first came up in 2015, together with the new study programme of the PPE M.A.. After the first conference in 2016, the conference has become an annual unique event at Witten/Herdecke University.

The organising teams are working entirely independent and choose their own topic for the conference, do their own marketing and fundraising and combine academic knowledge with practical skills to prepare for a wonderful international weekend with students and experts from all around the world.

Since its beginning the conference has tackled topics such as “Transformation - Knowledge, Power, Wealth”, “The Philosophy, Politics and Economics of Growth & Degrowth” and “[re]framing reality”. Each year more international students have decided to come to Witten to listen to invited keynote speakers, to present their own research and discuss with students from various backgrounds.

In 2020, a new chapter of the conference will be established. For the very first time the 5th International PPE Conference is going to be held entirely digital. The conference was originally planned to take place in April at Witten/Herdecke University, but had to be moved due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But the best news is: You can still register!

When does the conference take place? 4th - 6th September 2020
Who can register? Anyone who’s interested in the topic
How much is it? Nothing, it’s for free
How do I register? https://www.ppe-conference.org/

What is the digital PPE Conference about?
This year`s Conference tackles the topic “World-scale justice: beyond Global North & Global South?”, asking questions like: Is the Global North - Global South concept still relevant? Which countries should carry the burden of climate change? How are inequalities between the two parts of the world evolving and being carried on? Therefore, the general drivers and implications of world-scale inequality will be examined with regard to today’s key challenges such as climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic, development aid, post-colonial structures, etc.

In case you have any questions, send an email to info@ppe-conference.org.
