With Christmas fast approaching, the beginning of the semester feels like a long time ago. Here is a quick round-up of some the events that took place to welcome our international students to campus. If you are interested in getting involved in the next semesters – let us know!
During the first week of October, the ‘Fresher’s Week’ was organised by current students, the ESN initiative, and the International Office to welcome all those who started this semester.
A guided tour of the university gave the opportunity to discover the campus and the new building. The city and the most important places in were discovered in a rally. Whether it was the Witten Pub Tour, the ESN (European Social Network) welcome party for our Erasmus students or the legendary "MDM party”, there was plenty of partying.
For all freshers of the master's programs Philosophy, Politics & Economics (PPE) and Strategy & Organization (S&O), there was a chance to get active too on the Witten Hike. Together with the programme managers, students explored Witten and the Muttental, followed by lunch at Café del Sol.
In addition, efforts were made to ensure that everyone could make connections in Witten and expand their network. For our internationals, a buddy program is initiated every semester that runs throughout the semester. To give a good start, a buddy brunch was organized by the Erasmus Student Network (ESN). Another highlight was the Erstifahrt, which took place again this semester after a year's break and brought together Bachelor's and Master's students from all degree programs for an entire weekend.
Those international students who started their studies online were also taken care of. Current students of the PPE program hosted a digital "PPE Social Connect", where students who do not yet live in Germany were welcomed by their fellow students.
