Screen-free until three
A Germany-wide form of care in paediatric and adolescent practices
Project description
"Screen-free until 3" is a cluster-randomised controlled intervention study conducted in paediatric and adolescent practices. The aim of the intervention is to sensitise parents to the potential risks of early childhood screen use and to support them in helping their children grow up without screen media in the first three years of their lives.
In May 2022, 2,581 paediatric and adolescent practices received the intervention materials by cold call. Of these, over 1,000 practices have already confirmed that they will carry out the intervention. For this purpose, the paediatricians stick a signal sticker in the child's examination booklet at every U5 check-up (at 6 months of age) and briefly address the topic of screen media with the parents. The control group carries out routine care.
Parents taking part in the longitudinal study complete the questionnaire in the PraxisApp four times (from six months to three years of age). They also answer questions about their child's screen time and development and complete the Short-CIUS, a self-test for an internet-related disorder.
A process evaluation reviews the implementation process of the intervention and identifies relevant contextual factors that promote or inhibit the intervention.
