Ten years of the Paris Climate Agreement - UW/H debate with Christoph Bals (Germanwatch)

Flyer der Veranstaltung

The 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, the most important breakthrough in climate diplomacy to date, created binding obligations for all countries for the first time. It set long-term goals of limiting global warming to well below two degrees Celsius and preferably below 1.5 degrees Celsius, strengthening the resilience of countries and redirecting the necessary financial flows for both goals. To realise its transformative goals, the agreement intelligently relies on the coordination of expectations in politics, business, financial markets, justice and civil society. This accelerated a global energy revolution that challenged the fossil fuel business model for the first time since the beginning of industrialisation and reduced the expected global temperature rise. On the other hand, the global energy revolution started too late - and we are currently experiencing slowing effects from the reactionary moment of this energy revolution. Ten years after its adoption, what are the chances that the Paris Agreement will pass this resilience test?

In the upcoming UW/H debate on "Ten years of the Paris Climate Agreement - the climate summit in Belém, Brazil, in a geopolitical endurance test", participants can look forward to a lecture by Christoph Bals, Managing Director of Policy at Germanwatch. Afterwards, they will have the opportunity to take part in a joint discussion.

The event is free of charge and registration is not necessary.
