What is the CHE University Ranking?
The CHE University Ranking is carried out by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE). With more than 300 participating universities and 40 different subjects, the CHE ranking is Germany's most comprehensive university comparison. In the rankings, which are broken down by department, a total of around 120,000 students and hundreds of professors evaluate the study and research conditions at their university. The university ranking examines various criteria that are important for the quality of studies and academic research, e.g. in the categories "Labour market and career relevance", "Facilities", "International orientation" or "Studies and teaching".
Our students and professors also rate their experience at Witten/Herdecke University in the CHE rankings in the fields of economics, psychology, medicine and dentistry. For years, UW/H has received above-average ratings here.

Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (as of 2026)
- Outstanding ratings across all ranking categories
Students on the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Management (B. Sc.) and PPÖ – Philosophie, Politik und Ökonomik (B. A.) rate their degree programmes in the 2026 CHE Ranking significantly above the national average in all 14 categories.
- Top ratings were awarded to key areas such as:
Career and practical orientation: quality of practice-oriented modules (4.7 out of 5 stars),
Support from teaching staff (4.8 out of 5 stars),
Course offering: up-to-date nature of the course offerings (4.6 out of 5 stars),
organisation of studies (4.6 out of 5 stars),
examination organisation: variety of examination formats (4.8 out of 5 stars). - The rating for opportunities to network with other students stands out in particular: at 4.7 out of 5 stars, it is well above the national average of 3.5 stars.
