Basic research for better healthcare

Centre for Biomedical Education and Research (ZBAF)

Institutes, Chairs and Professorships at the ZBAF

The Centre for Biomedical Education and Research (ZBAF) brings together all the theoretical and basic science institutes and research groups within the Faculty of Health that focus on biomedical topics and basic biological research:

Research at the ZBAF

The institutes brought together under the ZBAF support translational research projects carried out by clinical working groups. These are projects that translate the findings of basic biomedical research into everyday clinical practice: scientific discoveries from the laboratory are translated into new diagnostic procedures, therapies or treatment options for patients, thereby helping to improve healthcare.

Publications

All publications relating to basic biomedical research at UW/H are gradually being included in the university bibliography.

Teaching: Cellular and Molecular Basis of Diseases

The ZBAF teaches students on health-related degree programmes at Witten/Herdecke University about the cellular and molecular basis of diseases. These are crucial for understanding how diseases develop and for devising new therapeutic approaches and preventive strategies. Students gain an understanding of the methods used in basic medical research, enabling them to critically evaluate new findings and applications in molecular medicine. They also acquire the skills required to pursue a career in basic medical research at universities, non-university research institutions and in the pharmaceutical industry.

Latest Annual Report

Since 2013, the Centre for Biomedical Education and Research has been producing an annual report which, amongst other things, summarises its current membership and its activities in teaching and research.
