Clinically-oriented anatomy training
The Chair and Institute of Anatomy and Clinical Morphology at Witten/Herdecke University places great emphasis on clinically-oriented anatomy training, which begins in the first semester of the medical degree programme. The focus is on understanding the organ systems and their functional relationships, in order to prepare students as effectively as possible for their future careers as doctors.

Research
The Department of Anatomy and Clinical Morphology is involved in basic research, clinical research and health care research.
The research primarily focuses on clinically oriented questions. We address these using morphological techniques ranging from light microscopy to electron microscopy as part of research projects. These projects currently relate to issues in clinical gastroenterology and ENT/phoniatrics, as well as basic science disciplines. The results of these investigations are incorporated into student teaching and, in turn, form the basis for new doctoral theses.
Publications
All publications of the Chair and Institute of Anatomy and Clinical Morphology at the UW/H are gradually being included in the university bibliography.
Teaching
The course comprises practical experience in the dissection course as well as self-study, and is supplemented by tutorials and consultation hours to provide a comprehensive overview of human morphology. In addition, specialised modules on medical biology, cell biology and medical terminology are offered.
The Chair of Anatomy and Clinical Morphology is integrated into the model degree programme in Medicine at Witten/Herdecke University during both the pre-clinical and clinical stages of the programme.
