A win-win situation for everyone
Our collaborations with practice partners from business & society
Practice meets teaching
The Faculty of Management, Economics and Society deals intensively with current entrepreneurial and social challenges in its teaching and research. A task that is only possible in cooperation with a broad network of companies, institutions and organisations from business and society. Our partners from business, politics and civil society contribute their expertise as well as specific questions and topics from everyday business life to our degree programmes and research.
Our students and practice partners from business and society come together in numerous projects and event formats - a win-win situation for both sides: Students learn from experts and make important career contacts. Practice partners gain new perspectives on entrepreneurial issues and can recommend themselves to the highly trained specialists and managers of tomorrow in times of a shortage of skilled labour.
How students and companies work together at the UW/H
We bring insider knowledge into the seminar room
How does strategic marketing work? What does day-to-day work look like in an international auditing company? What developments can be expected in the future in the field of virtual and augmented reality? Questions like these are at the centre of numerous practical presentations in the areas of Management, Economics and Society. Experts from well-known companies such as BASF, KPMG, McKinsey, Meta (formerly Facebook) and Google are invited to Witten/Herdecke University to share their expertise, provide valuable insights behind the scenes of the corporate world and exchange ideas with students.
Real problems - innovative solutions
In practical projects, students work together with a practice partner on a specific issue over a certain period of time. For example, the General Management (M. A.) and Management (M. Sc.) degree programmes start with a Master's kick-off project in the first week of study: together with a company from the Witten/Herdecke University practice network, students work on a task from the company and develop innovative solutions. At the end of the project week, the students present their results to the company and receive direct feedback. Project partners in recent years have included Douglas, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Tedi.
A look behind the scenes
Our practice partners regularly invite our students to their company location to get an authentic picture of the practice partner and the way they work. For the students, the excursion is a good opportunity to get to know potential employers and to discuss specialised topics from their studies with practice experts. In recent years, the excursions have included trips to the Deutsche Bundesbank in North Rhine-Westphalia and Horbach Wirtschaftsberatung.
Fit for practice
Internships during the course of study are expressly recommended at Witten/Herdecke University and are an integral part of the curriculum in many degree programmes. During internships, students work for a certain period of time in various companies, institutions and organisations from business and society, gaining valuable experience in the process. Students can try out the knowledge they have learnt during their studies in practice and demonstrate their skills to practical experts. An internship with one of our numerous practice partners can be the first and decisive step towards a dream job after graduation.
Valuable contacts to kick-start your career
From their first semester onwards, all students at Witten/Herdecke University, as well as representatives from companies, have the opportunity to engage in discussions about career prospects at the ‘Heiratsmarkt’ recruitment evening, held in an exclusive setting. Many successful careers have already got their start here. Companies represented at the ‘Heiratsmarkt’ include industry partners such as Check24, Dr Oetker, KPMG and Remondis.
