The Chair of Pathology at Witten/Herdecke University is based at the Institute of Pathology and Molecular Pathology at Helios University Hospital Wuppertal. As a key component of the university’s comprehensive healthcare provision, the institute is integrated into the interdisciplinary care of patients and offers a wide range of state-of-the-art histological, immunohistochemical and molecular pathological diagnostic methods.

Research

Urological conditions and tumours

The research carried out by the Chair of Pathology falls within the field of clinical research. The research specialisation focuses specifically on urological diseases and neoplastic diseases. All methodological approaches in pathology and molecular pathology are utilised, including laser microdissection and sequencing techniques such as next-generation sequencing (NGS). The primary focus is on investigations into kidney and bladder tumours.

Teaching

For students on the model degree programme in medicine, the Chair of Pathology offers a range of modules during the clinical phase of the programme. The focus here is on problem-based learning (PBL) as a tried-and-tested teaching method.
