Research funding
The Research Funding Department at Witten/Herdecke University provides information, advice and support to our academics and researchers at partner hospitals in securing third-party research funding. From providing information on calls for proposals from national and international (external) funding bodies, through to individual advice on ideas and project outlines, right through to the formal submission of applications and contract negotiations, the department offers a comprehensive service.

From application to grant award notification: the Research Funding Department supports academics and (clinical) researchers through every stage of the application process. Members of the UW/H can find detailed information on each of these points in the intranet.
Advice on third-party funding
The Research Funding Department advises and supports academics and researchers from partner hospitals on submitting research project proposals at EU, federal and state level, to the DFG or other relevant funding bodies. Advice on third-party funding includes:
- Advice on funding
- Identifying suitable funding opportunities
- Advice on the structure of grant applications
Submission of applications
If an application for the research project is submitted to the EU, the German federal government, the DFG or various foundations,
- the Research Funding Department assesses the feasibility of securing funding.
- It coordinates and provides administrative support for the application process.
- It provides advice on clinical trials and supports their conduct.
- It assists with the preparation of formal applications (e.g. Participant Portal, AZAP, etc.).
- It carries out the scientific, technical and formal review of applications.
- It coordinates legally binding application modules (e.g. obtaining various signatures).
- It coordinates liaison with other departments.
- It assists with budget calculations.
Overview of other funding opportunities/funding newsletters
The Research Funding Department compiles an up-to-date overview for UW/H researchers of potential funding bodies and key research areas by subject, and brings together all relevant, cross-faculty calls for proposals (health, business and society) from the various funding bodies.
Industrial research
When it comes to collaborations with industry partners, the research funding body provides support ranging from budget calculations through to the negotiation and finalisation of (external funding) contracts.
Supporting young talent
The Research Funding team is available to all early-career researchers to answer any questions they may have about their academic careers in research, for example regarding applications for research grants, submitting proposals for research projects, or preparing for a research stay abroad.
