The most important subject groups in the German university landscape are assessed, each of which has its own ranking. Witten/Herdecke University is represented in the CHE university rankings for economics, psychology, medicine and dentistry - with top ratings from our students.

StudyCheck is one of the largest German-language study portals for information about universities and degree programmes. Students can regularly rate their university and their degree programme here, giving prospective students authentic insights into the degree programme. The Trendence Institute is one of the leading market research companies in Germany for study and career guidance. Every year, it surveys thousands of pupils, students and career starters about their expectations of universities, employers and the world of work. Students at Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) also regularly take part in the Trendence survey - and provide particularly positive feedback on student satisfaction at UW/H.

It is usually only after graduation that it becomes clear whether the degree programme has brought success and set the right course for a career. With the independent Institute for Applied Statistics (ISTAT), Witten/Herdecke University annually collects extensive feedback from its graduates on their degree programmes and the career opportunities they have created. The statements prove it: The degree programme at Witten prepares students for their career entry with great success.

Witten/Herdecke University is the first university in the Ruhr region to be awarded the Fairtrade title. It is important to us to stand up for a fair world. That's why we not only offer fair products on campus, but also organise various campaigns and events on the subject to raise awareness of sustainability and fair trade.

Sustainability at the UW/H

Our timber extension is one of the most sustainable university buildings in Germany - and has been awarded the BNB Silver sustainability certificate! The Assessment System for Sustainable Building (BNB) is an instrument with particularly high standards: it assesses not only ecological, but also economic, technical, socio-cultural and functional qualities and the process quality in planning and construction management.

Witten/Herdecke University is setting a clear example for sustainability and is the first university in Germany to be successfully certified according to the "ZNU Standard for Sustainable Management" in 2025. Certification by independent third parties ensures that the university operates more sustainably year after year.

About the certification

The Science Council reviews the quality of teaching and research at our university at regular intervals. Following the last review, the Science Council accredited Witten/Herdecke University for the first time for a maximum period of ten years. In doing so, it has confirmed the excellent quality of the UW/H and confirmed that we fulfil the recognised scientific standards in teaching and research.
