The various administrative bodies within the university community aim to drive the university’s development forward and play an active role in shaping it. Their members come from a wide variety of fields both within and outside UW/H. They are all united by their creative drive and enthusiasm for innovation.
Through dialogue with one another, different perspectives converge, creating space for new ideas and projects for the benefit of the university, its research and teaching, and, of course, its young talents.

Board of Trustees
Leading figures from the worlds of business and culture, politics and academia, as well as from the fields of teaching and professional practice, support the UW/H both financially and through their expertise as members of the Board of Trustees. They act as partners to the Executive Board, providing advice on matters of funding and strategic direction; as sources of ideas, they help bring about innovation within the university; and as mentors, they pave the way for new projects.
Wittener Universitätsgesellschaft
The WUG (Wittener Universitätsgesellschaft) is the friends’ association and support organisation of UW/H. Entrepreneurs, public figures and private individuals from the region are dedicated to supporting the social, community and cultural engagement of Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) and its students. The aim is to forge links and build bridges between the members and activities of UW/H and the residents of the city and the wider region.
Stiftung Private Universität Witten/Herdecke
Education must be independent of vested interests – whilst at the same time being adequately funded. Ensuring the financial independence of Witten/Herdecke University, free from any influence on its academic content, is what drives the foundation.
