The specialists in patient studies

The Chair of Medical Biometry and Epidemiology (MBE) specialises in the further development and provision of methods for the statistical, epidemiological and health care economics planning, conduct and publication of patient studies.

The Chair of MBE is active in both research and teaching. It also offers academic services to working groups within the Faculty of Health and to external partners, and places particular emphasis on supporting early-career academics. The Chair’s services include regular courses on statistical software and its application to medical issues, as well as a comprehensive range of consultancy services for the planning, supervision and statistical analysis of scientific projects in the medical field.

Research

The research activities of the Chair of Medical Biometry and Epidemiology stem from the research questions and methodological requirements of patient-centred work. The focus is on applications in the field of chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus and rheumatic disorders.

Through close collaboration with clinical departments and research institutes, methods are developed in a practice-oriented manner, validated using real-world data and utilised to advance scientific understanding.

Teaching

The course programme offered by the Chair of Medical Biometry and Epidemiology is aimed primarily at students on the model degree programme in Medicine (StEx) and the degree programme in Dentistry (StEx), but also at PhD students and those preparing for their habilitation across the entire Faculty of Health at Witten/Herdecke University.

The core lecture ‘Medical Biometrics and Epidemiology’ is aimed at students on the model degree programme in Medicine. The dates will be communicated well in advance by email to all faculty members.
