Studying in Witten offers an educational environment that asks for personal and scientific aptitude and strengthens the individual development of the students.
In the Department of Psychology and Psychotherapy, students receive a scientific education in the basic psychological subjects in small groups with a maximum of 35 students per year. Seminars, tutorials and exercises have 18 or fewer participants.
You can expect a clinical focus in your studies and at the same time a broad orientation in terms of content. Already at Bachelor level we offer seminars on conversation or therapeutic groups. This is intensified in the Master's programme. Bachelor students who do not wish to establish themselves in clinical psychology are free to follow a Master's programme with a different focus
Psychological phenomena manifest themselves on the level of behaviour, experience and recognition. At IBAP we work on methods and contents to enable an understanding of psychological phenomena on all three levels.
The participation in our studium fundamentale enables you to get to know other scientific and artistic subjects as well as to deal with communicative and reflexive topics. Seminars on topics such as non-violent communication, dialogue competence, professional writing or "visions and dreams", theatre, culture, politics or sociology broaden your personal horizon beyond your studies in psychology.
We will not only teach you the theory, but also offer you many possibilities to get to know clinical psychology in a lively way, for example practical ring lectures, an accompanying practical semester or perception practical courses, within which a differentiated perception of the self and the other person is to be trained.
Students benefit from our stimulating and inspiring learning and study environment. They realize themselves in student initiatives, establish contacts with fellow students of other disciplines and become socially active themselves.
The Department of Psychology and Psychotherapy of the Faculty of Health was founded in 2013. It offers two study programmes: the Bachelor's programme "Psychology and Psychotherapy (B.Sc.)" and the Master's programme "Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy Studies (M.Sc.)".
Modern forms of teaching, learning and examination as well as excellent theory-practice networking for therapeutic and scientific activities guarantee an optimal educational situation, as do small seminar groups with 36 students per year.
People who are in a crisis situation and suffer from psychological problems, psychosomatic symptoms, interpersonal difficulties or the like turn to our outpatient clinic. At the beginning of the treatment, it is first determined whether psychotherapy can help. More than ten therapists work in a university setting to ensure optimal treatment for psychological stress and disorders.
