A sense of community in Germany
The study examines how people in Germany perceive their sense of connection – not only to their immediate surroundings, but also in a broader context.
About the study
A sense of connectedness is increasingly regarded as a key component of well-being, inner strength and a meaningful life. It influences how we cope with challenges, shape our relationships and understand our place in the world. At the same time, little is yet known about how people actually experience the various forms of connectedness and prioritise them for themselves.
With this survey, the Institute for Integrative Healthcare and Health Promotion (IGVF) aims to gauge how people in Germany perceive their sense of connectedness to their immediate surroundings and beyond.

Participants wanted!
- We are looking for people from all over Germany, regardless of age or gender.
- Participation involves completing an online questionnaire, which includes demographic questions, a sense of belonging scale, and space for comments and feedback.
- Taking part takes about 5 minutes, is voluntary and completely anonymous.
- Your answers will be used exclusively for research purposes.
What are the benefits of taking part in the study?
By taking part, you are making a valuable contribution to a better understanding of connectedness. Every response helps to build a nuanced picture of what sustains people, brings them together and provides them with a sense of direction – both in their personal lives and in their interactions within society. It is only through the diversity of different experiences and perspectives that meaningful insights can emerge. Your experiences and views are a valuable contribution to a field of research that is just as important for individual well-being as it is for social cohesion.
