The board of the Federal Association of Dentists in the Public Health Service has awarded Prof. Dr Andreas Schulte, former Chair of Special Care Dentistry at Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H), the Silver Medal of Honour. With this award, the association recognises Schulte's special achievements in the dental care of people with disabilities. The Silver Medal of Honour is the highest distinction awarded by the Dental Public Health Service.

Prof Dr Andreas Schulte completed his further training as an oral surgery specialist at the University of Münster. From there, he moved into dental conservation, where he worked as a senior physician from 1986 to 1991. After holding positions at the universities of Marburg and Heidelberg, he came to the UW/H in 2015, where he set important accents as Chair of Disability-Oriented Dentistry and also inspired students for this topic.

In recognition of his achievements, he received the Tholuck Medal in 2016, which is awarded to individuals who have rendered outstanding services to dental health prophylaxis and prevention.
