Hey Stockholm!

"I really wanted to go abroad and learn in an international environment," says 23-year-old Amir Rahimi. The decision to go to Stockholm was the result of a long decision-making phase. In addition to the Swedish elite university, Amir had acceptances from Sciences Po in Paris and the Toulouse School of Economics - all top addresses. The combination of excellent courses, small cohorts of around 50 students and the opportunity to personalise his studies spoke in his favour in Stockholm. "That reminds me of Witten," he says, "where I had a lot of freedom and personal responsibility right from the start." In addition to the academic demands, he also appreciates the international flair in Stockholm: "I study with people from all over the world. The city is dynamic, but at the same time relaxed - perfect for concentrating fully on your studies."

From the medical dream to a double bachelor's degree

Amir actually wanted to study medicine after his higher education entrance qualification - he had even already completed his nursing placement. But then he discovered the Management degree programme at UW/H and applied. "It was a gut decision that turned out to be a direct hit."

He was particularly influenced by the intensive teaching concept: small groups, personal support and examinations that require practical thinking. In the "Management of Organisations" course, for example, students have to put their knowledge to the test in a 48-hour case study. "You learn to solve problems in a structured way under pressure." At the same time, Amir developed an interest in Economics early on. He chose relevant courses and went to Paris for a semester to focus on Economics.

Back at UW/H, he decided to do a second Bachelor's degree in Economics, Politics and Law (WPR). "That was the perfect foundation for the Master's degree."

Commitment and influence

Alongside his studies, Amir worked at the Chair of Banking and Finance and the Chair of Macroeconomics and International Economics and was a student representative for the Faculty of Management, Economics and Society for a year. "At the UW/H, you can really have an influence - on the design of the degree programme, but also on the development of the faculty. We had a direct line to professors, the Faculty Office and the administration. That's unique."

With his Master's degree in Sweden, Amir now wants to delve deeper into empirical research and quantitative methods. His goal is to do doctoral studies afterwards. "The UW/H was the springboard for me. Here I learnt to be an entrepreneur in my studies and to shape my own path."
