AINS Colloquium: Perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis – what, when and how much?

Perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis (PAP) is a key measure for reducing post-operative wound infections. It is therefore an important objective in perioperative medicine to administer PAP correctly. Unfortunately, many studies show that its implementation in everyday clinical practice could be improved.
This lecture examines the current evidence and provides a concise overview of relevant national and international guideline recommendations. The focus is on practical aspects: choice of drug, optimal timing, dose adjustment for obese patients and the duration of PAP. The aim is to provide participants with specific recommendations for everyday anaesthetic practice in the operating theatre – evidence-based, pragmatic and directly applicable.
Our guest speaker is Dr C. Lanckohr from Münster.
