AINS Colloquium: S3 Guideline: Sepsis - Prevention, diagnosis, treatment and aftercare - Update 2026

In April 2025, the new S3 guideline ‘Sepsis – Prevention, Diagnosis, Treatment and Aftercare’ was published under the auspices of the German Sepsis Society (AWMF Reg. No.: 079-001), which updates the DSG’s 2018 guideline of the same name. The basis and reference guideline for this is an update of the ‘Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC): International Guidelines for the Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock’ from 2021.
In addition, numerous other current German guidelines (such as those on invasive ventilation, renal replacement therapy or positioning therapy) were taken into account, resulting in a very comprehensive new S3 sepsis guideline comprising a total of 57 evidence-based recommendations, 29 expert consensus statements and two statements.
This lecture will outline the key new developments and the underlying research evidence for each, with the aim of enabling intensive care specialists in particular to provide evidence-based care for patients with sepsis or septic shock.
Our guest speaker is Prof. Dr Thorsten Brenner, MHBA, from Essen University Hospital.
Participation is free of charge. Registration is required.
This live digital event forms part of the AINS Colloquium and offers doctors and nursing staff high-quality continuing professional development in the fields of anaesthesia, intensive care and emergency medicine, pain management and palliative care.
