Students at Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) have given the Bachelor's degree programmes in Management (B. Sc.) and PPÖ - Philosophy, Politics and Economics (B. A.) an above-average rating in the new CHE University Ranking published by ZEIT.

The results are significantly better in all central categories than in the nationwide comparison of participating universities. For example, Witten/Herdecke University achieved 4.6 out of 5 stars for the general study situation - compared to an average of 4.1 for all universities. Support from teaching staff (4.6) and the organisation of studies (4.6) are also clearly above the comparative values.

The degree programmes perform particularly well in individual aspects of teaching: Students rate the topicality of the courses on offer with 4.6 stars (average: 4.1). The support provided by lecturers with questions and problems received 4.8 stars (average: 4.1) and the discussion of study assignments 4.7 stars (average: 4.0). The variety of examination formats also received a top score of 4.8 stars (average: 3.4).

Practical orientation as a clear competitive advantage

The proximity to practice is also visible in the ranking: initiatives to promote career entry are rated with 4.8 stars. The quality of courses with practical relevance is praised with 4.7 stars. Overall, the professional and practical orientation achieved 4.4 stars (average 3.5).

Learning environment with personal proximity

The high level of satisfaction with the social environment is also striking. The opportunity to network with other students is rated with 4.7 stars - well above the national average of 3.5.

Students also had the opportunity to leave anonymous comments on their degree programme. For example: "Very easy to get in touch with professors, small study groups, good learning atmosphere, always with the invitation to ask lots of questions."

Broad range of degree programmes with a high degree of freedom of choice

"These excellent results confirm our didactic approach of closely combining theory and practice," says Prof Dr Dirk Sauerland, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Society. "At the same time, we are continuously developing our teaching and learning concept: we are strengthening the reflective use of artificial intelligence, focussing on project-based and research-based learning and specifically promoting skills that enable students to act in a complex world - and which cannot be replaced by AI. Studying in Witten means: Think. Act. Impact."

This understanding is also reflected in the degree programmes on offer. In addition to the established degree programmes in Management and PPÖ, which were included in the current ranking, the Faculty of Business and Society offers three further Bachelor's degree programmes: Business, Politics and Law (B. A.), Management & Psychology (B. Sc.) and - a new addition since last winter semester - Management in Healthcare (B. Sc.), which addresses current developments at the interface of business and healthcare. They are all organised in the Bachelor of Choice model. After a joint orientation year, students can finally decide on the degree programme of their choice according to their interests.

Further information: The CHE University Ranking is carried out by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE).
