Research

Dr Matheus Franco joined WIFU in August 2023 as a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Corporate Entrepreneurship and Digitalisation in Family Businesses. His research focuses on innovation management, organisational transformation and business model innovation, particularly in the context of family businesses. A key focus is on the role of tradition, family legacy and mental models in strategic decisions and innovation processes in family businesses.

In addition, he analyses how internal factors – such as dynamic capabilities and resources – interact with external influences such as stakeholder expectations and institutional conditions to shape the innovative capacity of companies.

A third strand of research is devoted to collaborative innovation processes for tackling societal challenges (‘grand challenges’), in which companies develop sustainable solutions in partnership with academia and public institutions.

Methodologically, I work in a theory-driven manner with quantitative methods, in particular surveys, statistical modelling, machine learning approaches and natural language processing.
