DANGER
Democracy, Anger, and Elite Responses
Project overview
The DANGER project investigates whether political violence jeopardises European democracies and how politicians can counter these dangers. To this end, the researchers compare coalitions between exclusively democratic parties with coalitions that also include anti-democratic parties. They focus on Europe in the interwar years (1919 - 1939), as some democracies failed during this period, while others survived. What effects did the different coalitions have on political violence at the time? Could they have contributed to saving democracies? The researchers apply the results to today's democracies in Europe.
