FGM/C ("Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting") - A lecture with Dr. med. C. Zerm

Trigger warning: physical and psychological violence, traumatic experiences, genital injuries.
FGM/C ("Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting") refers to the partial or complete injury or removal of external female genitalia, often without medical reason and with severe physical and psychological consequences. Millions of people are affected worldwide, including many in Germany.
This lecture with Dr Christoph Zerm aims to bring the topic to society and inform and raise awareness about it.
The following main topics will be covered:
- medical consequences of FGM/C
- socio-cultural backgrounds
- transculturally sensitive interaction with those affected
- possibilities of reconstructive therapy
No previous knowledge is necessary for the lecture. All those interested are invited to attend this evening to find out more about this important topic and to put an end to the taboo surrounding female genital mutilation.
The lecture is an event organised by the Global Health Initiative led by UW/H students.
