From a Pioneering Idea to a Model of Success: 30 Years of Nursing Science at Witten/Herdecke University

Thirty years ago, Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) made history in higher education: in 1996, Germany’s first university degree programme in nursing science was launched here. What was pioneering work at the time is now an integral part of research, teaching and healthcare. Three decades on, the Department of Nursing Science is celebrating this anniversary – with distinguished guests and a look to the future.

Under the theme ‘30 Years of Nursing Science – Reflections, Impulses, Perspectives’, leading figures in German-speaking nursing science are coming to Witten. Lectures and a panel discussion will focus on the role of nursing in an ageing society, the future of academic nursing education and the question of how the profession can contribute to a sustainable healthcare system. Speakers will include Prof. Dr Gabriele Meyer, Prof. Dr Markus Zimmermann, Prof. Dr Hartmut Remmers and other renowned experts from the fields of nursing science and practice.
