Hohenstein Round Table 2025

At the Hohenstein Round Table on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, Tom Buhrow, former Director General of WDR, will give a lecture on the topic: "The world in upheaval - Germany on the move!".
There have always been phases in which Germany has fallen behind in international competition and there have also always been phases in which the world around us has changed threateningly fast. But these phases were different to those we are going through now.
Everyone feels it: this time the world is in permanent disarray and Germany is nowhere near prepared for the chaos. How could it be? Historians call the division of world history into epochs "periodisation". As a correspondent in Washington in the 1990s, Tom Buhrow witnessed at first hand how the USA was turning away from Europe. Now it is obvious. What we are currently experiencing is the end of an era. Accordingly, Germany is also facing an epochal change. It's not just about a few percent more growth, a few percent more in the defence budget, a few corrections to the jungle of regulations. It is about a comprehensive new beginning without the protection of "Big Brother" in the background.
With his international experience as a correspondent in Paris and Washington, Tom Buhrow shows where Germany's role can lie in the newly emerging world order. Above all, how we can make the mental leap into political adulthood.
At the "Hohenstein Round Table", prominent guests of honour meet with members of the WUG, students, friends and supporters of the University at exciting lectures from the worlds of politics, culture, business and society. At a dinner in a festive setting, there is time for exciting dialogue and lively discussions. The venue is the university's main hall.
Admission costs €150 per person.
