Hohenstein Round Table 2026

At the Hohenstein Round Table, Prof. Dr Mojib Latif – a meteorologist, oceanographer and climate researcher – will give a lecture on the topic ‘The Challenge of Climate Change – Can We Meet the Paris Climate Targets?’.

The summer of 2026 once again brought home the consequences of climate change with record-breaking figures: unprecedented air and sea temperatures, devastating forest fires in Europe, and falling water levels with massive repercussions for shipping and, consequently, for the transport costs of the German economy. And every hot summer, several thousand people in Germany die as a result of the heat.

Drawing on his research, Prof. Latif will outline whether the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement are still achievable and what developments lie ahead. He will then be available to answer questions.

At the ‘Hohenstein Round Table’, distinguished guests come together with university members of the Witten University Society (WUG), students, friends and supporters of the university to attend fascinating lectures on politics, culture, business and society. A dinner in a festive setting provides an opportunity for engaging exchanges and lively discussions.
