International Love Data Week 2027 – Handle with care!

International Love Data Week (LDW) is an annual international campaign week held in February (around Valentine’s Day). It draws attention to the topics of research data and research data management (RDM).
At Witten/Herdecke University, the campaign week has gained significant importance since November 2024 thanks to the systematic expansion of the university’s research infrastructure. In 2027, UW/H is taking part in International Love Data Week with a contribution on the theme ‘Handle with care!’, which aims to focus on aspects such as IT security, privacy protection and adherence to ethical standards.
Sharing best practices at the university is important: UW/H’s events cover the entire data lifecycle. This includes topics such as data storage, the ethical handling of data, copyright (“Whose Data Is It, Anyway?”) and archiving. As the UW/H conducts extensive research in the fields of medicine, health and business, the extremely sensitive handling of patient data and personal data is already a key priority, which will be strategically expanded upon in 2027.
This includes:
- Promoting data reproducibility to train researchers to prepare data in such a way that studies can be replicated and comply with the international FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
- Bridging the gap between theory and practice through a UW/H service and contact point, which will utilise the global motto to offer practical FDM workshops that can provide university members with concrete tools for conducting research in compliance with data protection regulations on a day-to-day basis.
The aim is to provide everyone – from data novices to data professionals – with the training and resources they need.
Further information on the action week is available online. The event will be held in English.
Anyone interested can take part in the event free of charge via Zoom.
