New Publication: "Wie geht gute Politik?"
The book "Wie geht gute Politik? Eine generationsübergreifende Perspektive" (How is good politics done? An intergenerational perspective) by Reinhard Loske and Alexander Loske has been published by Kohlhammer publishing.
[tra:ce] member Prof. Dr. Reinhard Loske was a member of the German Bundestag for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen from 1998 to 2007 and Senator for the Environment, Construction, Transport and European Affairs of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen from 2007 to 2011. Today he is an honorary professor at WittenLab at Witten/Herdecke University, among other roles. His son Alexander Loske is a politics teacher and works in youth education.
In their new book, the two ask how capable of learning democracy is in the face of ecological crises, digitalisation, economic globalisation and growing authoritarian tendencies worldwide, and how it can find an appropriate balance between representation and civic engagement. The book grew out of numerous conversations between father and son, in which the perspectives of two generations meet. The authors place particular emphasis on the role of knowledge and values in "good politics". The book closes with a proposal for a new intergenerational contract.
On 12 November 2026, Reinhard and Alexander Loske will present the book at a reading held as part of the Bürgeruniversität Witten, a joint event of the vhs Witten | Wetter | Herdecke and UW/H. It begins at 8 p.m. in the cinema hall of Haus Witten.
During the winter term, Reinhard Loske will also be holding an English seminar on the sustainability-related aspects of the book, as part of the Studium Fundamentale.
