Outstanding results in the CHE ranking
The Master's degree programmes of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Society at UW/H receive top grades in the ranking of the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE), Germany's largest university ranking.

Students have rated the Master's degree programmes General Management (M. A.), PPE - Philosophy, Politics and Economics (M. A.) and Strategy & Organization (M. Sc.) at Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) as outstanding in the new CHE University Ranking published by ZEIT: In all ten evaluation categories, UW/H is well above the mean of all universities that took part in the ranking. The degree programmes scored particularly well in the areas of "courses offered" and "study organisation", but also in research and practical orientation.
UW/H students were particularly positive about the fact that they have the opportunity to set individual specialisations during their studies and can benefit from a diverse range of courses: "The range of courses is excellent, and students' interests and initiatives are catered for in a way that would probably be hard to imagine at the vast majority of universities," was one of the comments students were able to make.
Participation in research projects during the degree programme
An above-average number of points were also awarded for access to courses, the support offered by lecturers, the teaching skills of lecturers and the organisation of internships abroad. The UW/H also stands out for the practical orientation of its teaching: in all three points surveyed here, it is well above the average of all universities, achieving 4.8 stars for the quality of courses with practical relevance (average: 4.1) and 4.6 stars for the professional and practical relevance of the skills acquired (average: 4.0).
The business degree programmes at UW/H also clearly stand out in terms of research orientation: the opportunity to carry out independent research work in courses and participation in research projects are just two aspects that students emphasise here. Last but not least, Witten/Herdecke University has an impressive research reputation, measured by the high research funding per researcher.
Preparation for responsible activities in science and business
"We are very pleased about the excellent ratings from our students; especially about the fact that the quality of teaching and support during the degree programme are so highly valued. This shows that all the staff in the Faculty are doing a very good job," says Prof Dr Dirk Sauerland, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Society. "We offer our Master's students degree programmes that cover the important topics in business management, politics and economics. This prepares them for a wide range of career and development opportunities: both in academia and in practice, where they take on management positions in companies and other organisations, develop solutions to complex problems and make responsible decisions."
The CHE University Ranking
The new comparison of Master's programmes includes up to 15 different criteria - student assessments and facts - depending on the subject. In addition to the general study situation, students assess the transition to the Master's programme, the range of courses on offer, supervision and support during their studies, digital teaching elements and the practical and research orientation of teaching. This is contrasted by facts on research performance such as research funding per academic, publications per professor and doctoral studies per professor.
The student magazine ZEIT CAMPUS publishes a selection of the results for Management in the current issue. The magazine will be available in stores from 21 November 2023 .
