Urban agriculture in the centre of Witten

On the Open Garden Day as part of the preparations for the IGA 2027, a colourful programme awaits citizens in Witten's Pferdebachtal:

Guided tours through the "Gardens for the Community", which combine biodiversity promotion with organic and regenerative agriculture, insights into the solidarity agriculture SoLaWi "WirGemüse" and information on variety diversity, organic breeding and genetic engineering at the stand of the Future Foundation for Agriculture, GLS Treuhand e. V.

Between 12:00 and 14:00 there will be a vegetable pan fresh from the field for lunch. Those interested can also look forward to live music.

The festival will take place in the gardens for the community in Wittener Pferdebachtal. Access is via Christopherus Hof (Im Wullen 75) or Witten/Herdecke University (Alfred-Herrhausen-Straße 50).

Those arriving by car are requested not to park in the Christopherus Hof car park.

Programme:

  • 10:30 a.m.: Guided tour of the gardens for the community
  • 11:00 a.m.: Public lecture as part of Studium fundamentale: "From America to Europe: New genetic engineering and the future of seed work", Dr Sebastian Kretschmer, Room: U.031b/c, Alfred-Herrhausen-Str. 48 (until 12 noon)
  • 12:00 p.m.: Vegetable pan fresh from the field (until 2 p.m.)
  • 13:30: Guided tour of the gardens for the community

 

Participants can also look forward to insights into various local initiatives throughout the day. These include the Witten/Herdecke University's Feldversuch project, which combines innovative community catering, regional agriculture and health promotion. The SoLaWi "WirGemüse" community-supported agriculture organisation will also be presenting itself. At the stand of Zukunftsstiftung Landwirtschaft, GLS Treuhand e. V., the participants will also be providing information about variety, organic breeding and genetic engineering.

The event is being organised in cooperation with the Entwicklungsgesellschaft für ganzheitliche Bildung e.V., Witten/Herdecke University,
of the Future Foundation for Agriculture, and GLS Treuhand e. V.. Everyone is welcome.

Admission is free of charge.
