Witten into the heart - exhibition opening

Many grey circles can be seen on a dark background. Embedded in some of the circles are small round photos and coloured icons showing places, buildings, events, nature motifs, etc. The arrangement looks like a mosaic. The arrangement looks like a mosaic.

The WittenLab cordially invites you to the exhibition, which illuminates Witten from two fascinating perspectives.

In Philip Pearce's "Photographic Ethnography" seminar, the participants visually explored their living space during the winter semester. They captured everyday life, the people and the atmosphere of their city with their cameras. The selected photographs from two excursions reveal highly personal perspectives - each image a subjective interpretation of the familiar.

At the same time, the seminar "Golden Record Studios" by Jörg Lukas Matthei raises a provocative question: How would we present Witten to posterity today?

In 1977, the Voyager probes sent a curative snapshot of the Earth into space. Almost fifty years later, the students have created a new multimedia recording for Witten: a contemporary self-portrait that deliberately asks in a diverse and critical way: Who decides how we are remembered? What characterises our present?

In photos, videos and multimedia works, the two seminar results come together and invite interested parties to see Witten anew - through the eyes of those who live here and through the lens of eternity. In the multimedia application, you can also add your own perspective.
