Digitalisation in outpatient care: strategy and digital maturity need a bit of a kick

Under the theme ‘Strong structures, smart solutions: Digitalisation in outpatient care’, the Zi event took place in Berlin on 20 May 2026. Together, we reviewed the current state of digitalisation in outpatient care. Care providers reported on their journey towards digitally supported administration and care.

Under the slogan “Digital Maturity in Outpatient Care – A Misunderstood Tale of Naughty Fruits, the Human Factor and Technology”, I gave a keynote presentation together with the KVWL.

Why?

As a department, under the thematic leadership of Timo Neunaber, we are conducting research into the possibilities for measuring digital maturity in outpatient care. Digital transformation means initiating a process of change within the healthcare organisation. The aim is therefore to steer from a current state towards a target state. Ergo – I need to know where I stand and, ultimately, whether my results have actually led to change. A measurement tool is required – a digital maturity model.
