Eat consciously:Action days of the open living lab

Symbolic image of field work

What we eat and especially how we eat has a direct impact on our well-being and health. Conscious, mindful eating proves to be beneficial. But how does it work? The Field Trial project invites you to sample food together, with an exercise in mindful eating. Afterwards, the group will head to the neighboring field to experience the connections between nutrition, agriculture and health up close.

The event is part of the nationwide Open Real-World Laboratory Days, which will take place for the first time this year from June 30 to July 6, 2025. Over 50 real-world laboratories in Germany are opening their doors to the public - with guided tours, workshops, discussions and hands-on activities. The Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) field trial in Witten is also inviting the public to two interactive events.

The field trial is a transformative real-world laboratory in the Pferdebachtal valley, which is run in cooperation with the Hochschulwerk and the Entwicklungsgesellschaft für ganzheitliche Bildung e.V. (Development Society for Holistic Education). The focus is on the question of how a sustainable food culture can be experienced and shaped in everyday life - with reference to agriculture, health, education and community. Bio-regional supply structures will be established, educational formats tested and new ways of cooperation between science, urban society and practice developed.

The event is free of charge. It is not necessary to register in advance.
