Our GP training courses for university teaching practices are being extended to the Rhine-Ruhr region! The new online training programme offers evidence-based, pharmaceutically neutral topics prepared by experienced GPs that are relevant to our everyday practice.

On four dates a year, you can earn your CME (and DMP) points as a teaching doctor at the four universities of Bochum, Düsseldorf, Essen and Witten from the comfort of your practice or from home in an interactive exchange with teaching colleagues.

At the end of the online training course, there will be an opportunity to discuss the topic in your own online rooms as a location in a familiar circle.

Deprescribing in the GP practice

Stopping medication - but how?

We all learn when to start medication, but stopping medication is often much more difficult. Older patients in particular, who suffer from multiple conditions, often take five or more medications a day, which is known as polypharmacy. This situation can lead to significant risks, including memory impairment, falls and more frequent hospitalisations.

Despite increasing evidence that older people with polypharmacy in particular can benefit from reducing the number of medications (deprescribing), there have been few studies on clinical outcomes and appropriate discontinuation strategies.

This workshop will discuss the challenges faced by doctorsand patientsas well as the scientific basis. 
Specific tips and strategies for discontinuing medication (deprescribing) will also be presented and discussed in order to ensure that they can be transferred to GP practice.
