A fresh approach to employee benefits
Employee benefits are a key driver of staff motivation and retention – yet many companies do not make full use of the opportunities available to them because implementing such schemes is complex and the tax benefits are not always clear. The Berlin-based SaaS (Software as a Service) company Hrmony addresses this very issue, enabling employers to implement benefits in a simple, legally compliant and digital manner.
The idea originated whilst the three founders – Dennis Ortmann, Deniz Caglayan and Jan Christian Saupe – were studying at the UW/H, where they met before bringing Sebastian Blautzik (a graduate of the Ruhr University Bochum) on board as the fourth member of the team.
With the Lunchio app, they initially developed a digital solution for a sector that had previously been dominated by analogue methods: meal allowances. As pioneers, they digitised traditional paper meal vouchers, making them more flexible and user-friendly. By further developing the business model and with the support of investors, the start-up grew into Hrmony – a comprehensive platform for corporate benefits.
The core idea remained the same: to create benefits for employees and enhance the attractiveness of employers through modern benefits schemes. Today, Hrmony supports over 1,500 companies of all sizes in managing tax-optimised benefits digitally and centrally, thereby delivering financial benefits for both companies and employees.
The platform bundles various benefit modules and significantly reduces the administrative burden on companies. At the same time, employees gain simple and direct access to their benefits via an app or card and benefit from a personalised selection and flexible use of these benefits.
From the outset, the team has relied on close dialogue with companies and employees to develop the product iteratively and consistently tailor it to users’ needs – with the aim of supporting companies in the competition for talent.
