Launch of the working paper: "Gender Dynamics in the Cassava Value Chains in Nigeria: A Case Study of Oyo and Benue States"

We cordially invite you to the presentation of [tra:ce] Working Paper Series No. 4:
“Gender Dynamics in the Cassava Value Chains in Nigeria: A Case Study of Oyo and Benue States”
Using the Gender and Development (GAD) framework, the paper examines gender inequalities in Nigeria's agricultural value chains based on data from the cassava value chain (CVC). The authors use a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative data from a survey of 315 participants with qualitative findings from in-depth interviews (IDIs) and focus group discussions (FGDs). The results reveal significant inequalities in education, land ownership, access to credit, and income. To address these inequalities, they recommend implementing gender-responsive land reforms, financial inclusion initiatives, targeted skills development programs, literacy and education initiatives, and women-led cooperatives. The inclusion of gender equality in household planning and advisory services is also crucial. Such measures are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals in the areas of poverty reduction, hunger eradication, gender equality, decent work, and reduction of inequalities.
